Bouvier des Flandres are predisposed to hereditary laryngeal paralysis, which can be congenital in this breed, as well as an inherited nerve condition affecting both motor and sensory function. Both conditions progressively reduce exercise tolerance. In a large, muscular breed where reduced activity can lead to weight gain relatively quickly, consistent food and weight tracking gives owners an early signal that adjustments are needed.
