Bulldogs are predisposed to brachycephalic airway syndrome, urate and cystine urolithiasis, and pulmonic stenosis, a congenital narrowing of the heart's outflow tract. Excess body weight worsens all three: increasing respiratory effort, raising uric acid excretion, and adding cardiovascular demand. The abdominal distension that can accompany cardiac conditions may also mask underlying weight loss, making objective tracking particularly important.
