Whippets share the sighthound body type, with naturally low body fat and lean muscle mass that makes standard body condition scoring less reliable than in other breeds. They have a breed-specific form of progressive retinal atrophy and a reported predisposition to chylothorax, a condition where lymphatic fluid accumulates in the chest. Both conditions can reduce activity tolerance, making food intake adjustment and weight tracking useful tools for managing condition over time.
